Winter Sports
Ski and snowboarding holidays
can be covered on any of our policies except for
the Backpacker policy. If you are just taking
one Winter Sports break then you can purchase
a Single trip policy. If you normally ski in the
Alps or the Pyrenees then the Europe cover will
be sufficient for your holiday. Should you venture
further afield and ski in Colorado or the Rockies
just click on the Worldwide cover.

Maybe you like to take more than
one trip in a year. If you are taking a Winter
Sports break at the beginning of the year and
then having a two week break on the beach in the
summer, it would be more cost effective to take
an Annual Multi trip policy. The Annual policy
will give you up to 17 days Winter Sports cover
during the year so you can include your ski trip
amongst your other holidays and breaks away. Also,
if only one of you ski, you could even take your
holidays at different times as the adults can
travel independently on the Annual policy.
Your own ski equipment is covered
for loss, damage or theft, up to the levels shown
on the policy. However, if you have hired the
ski equipment make sure that loss or damage is
covered by the rental company as hired equipment
is not covered under the policy. Please note though,
that leaving you skis outside a reastaurant and
having them damaged or stolen is known as 'Unattended
Equipment' and will not be covered on your insurance.
So you must exercise reasonable care for the safety
and supervision of the ski equipment. Should you
have an accident on the slopes the insurance will
provide cover for Mountain Rescue should that
be necessary. When you consider that one-in-ten
skiers require some form of medical treatment
- usually for knee ligament damage or broken limbs
- your first priority should be to make sure that
you are covered for all medical eventualities.
If you have pre-booked your ski
pack but you are certified by a medical practitioner
in the resort as being unable to ski and use the
facilities your policy will cover you for the
unused portion of your ski pack costs. Between
1st December and 30th April you are also covered
for piste closure due to lack of snow. The policy
covers you for the cost of travelling to another
resort where there are more suitable conditions.
Also if, as a direct result of an avalanche, your
transfer from or to your pre-booked resort is
delayed you are insured for reasonable additional
travel and accomodation expenses incurred.
Many people who take a Winter
Sports break like to enjoy the exhilaration of
skiing off piste. Your policy will cover you for
off piste skiing on recognised routes within your
resort. You are allowed to ski off piste outside
the resort but only with a qualified guide who
must be approved by the resort. These points are
worth noting regarding off piste skiing as it
could save you thousands in medical bills and
helicopter rescue costs.
Although skiing and snowboarding
is covered the policy does not include cover for
Ski Jumping, Ski Racing or Mono Skiing
