Backpackers
This is a long stay policy which
is designed specifically for younger people who
may be planning a gap year. It is available to
anyone up to the age of 45 and you must be travelling
for at least 2 months but not longer than 12 months.

This is an ideal policy for students
who want to go abroad travelling during the summer
holidays. We realise that students and undergraduates
like to keep a tight check on their finances and
we have priced our long term travel policy accordingly.
It will give you a very competitive quote but
will offer you complete protection in the event
of an emergency.
It's a simple process to find
a quotation for your travels. Firstly choose the
destination. Maybe you are travelling through
France and Spain by car or Interailing, or doing
voluntary or charity work, then you would need
to choose the European option. If you are travelling
further afield, maybe doing Conservation work
in Africa or South America you would need to take
Worldwide cover. The Backpacker policy is priced
by the month, so if you enter the date that you
are leaving the UK and the date that you are returning,
the quotation given will cover you for that amount
of time. A Backpackers policy will only cover
you for the one trip, cover will cease as soon
as you arrive back into the UK. We cannot cover
anybody who is planning to stay out of the country
for longer than 12 months, so you need to know
your return date when you book the policy.
Our policy will give you full
cover for your travels. Medical expenses are covered
up to £5 million and personal possessions
are covered up to £1500. Included in the
baggage is cover for your passport if it is lost
or stolen while you are out of the UK This can
cause quite a problem if you are going to be away
for some time and travelling from country to country.
You should keep your passport, money and important
documents safe at all times, bearing in mind that
the popular tourist attractions are also favoured
by thieves and pickpockets. It is worthwhile keeping
copies of important documents such as passports
and visas, mabybe even e mailing a copy to yourself
so you can always have access to it. Failing that,
leave copies at home with friends or family. Should
you loose your passport or have it stolen you
will need to go to the British Embassy or Consulate
to get a replacement so it's a good idea to find
out the telephone number and address of the local
Embassy in the country you are going to visit,
before you leave the UK. If you are going to be
taking part in any sporting activities during
your time away you would need to check either
on the website or with Customer Services to see
if the policy will cover you. Some of the more
extreme sports are not going to be covered by
travel insurance but that does not mean that you
should not take part. Most of these events have
insurance that can be taken out before taking
part.
Before travelling, it is also
advisable to do some research on the countries
you will be visiting. Look at the Foreign Office
website, Know Before You Go, and make yourself
aware of any changes in the political climate,
any environmental dangers or potential health
risks. Most importantly, look at the Travel Advice
on the same website to make sure that it is safe
to travel.
